Fiction. Time period in old Runescape in which three clans battle for wilderness routes. Story mainly focuses on the Borgia clan, where the final battle goes horribly due to their missing leader. Missing leader finds long lost sibling on a date with a supposed stranger. Third clan swoops in and causes a chaotic upset that ceases the entire situation.
Shortly after the lift on the Player Killing of the Wilderness in 2011, there was a sort of renaissance. Players rejoiced as the wilderness returned to the chaotic, wild west that it was known for. But there was a short period in which a good few people took it to an extreme no one was ready for. For two months, there were a series of clan battles in which a few player clans took part to secure routes, make money, and most of all, control the untamed landscape of the Wilderness. It is mostly forgotten, but to those who remember, they called it "The War for the Wilderness".
While several clans took part, the story actually begins with two. The Skullers (possible name change later) and the Borgia. The Borgia took center stage as most of these situations would not have happened if not for their tactics. Originally, they were a merchant clan that was started by a few friends looking to flip items. They didn't really have a leader in the beginning, but XxHenryxX had a mind for gold making as well as poorly chosen names for the sake of historical interest. He started playing Runescape Classic with his brother, Andrew (change name later) and they did everything together. Eventually due to a divorce in their family, Andrew moved away and their mother cut off all contact with the family. Henry wouldn't take this lying down and continued to play Runescape in hopes of one day reuniting with him. But years went by, Henry made new friends, and together they were about to do something unthought of for 2011.
With the Wilderness renewal, Henry had an idea. The wilderness was flush with new players but also now certain gold making territories were suddenly dangerous and by extension, profitable. But unlike groups before them, they were going to take a new approach. Instead of jumping farmers and camping locations, they became a mercenary service to help groups or single players hold certain spots in the Wilderness. Despite not being professional pkers, they were intimidating enough to spook away even the bravest of player killers. This gave Henry another idea, what if they hired their own farmers and protected them like an in-house program? That is how the Borgia clan began seizing different routes within the Wilderness. First their focus was on the Green Dragons as it was a popular spot to prey on bot farms. But they began hiring more and more players both to act as farmers but also as mercenaries. This allowed them to seize the Zamorak Chapel (change later) and Black Unicorn farms. At first, their most consistent prey were Bots, but even placing two "guards" per server was enough to deter most players. From there, they cornered the market on Dragon Hide, Bones, Wines of Zamorak, and Unicorn Horns/Dust, causing them to rise over time. This was Henry's very risky plan that landed him a de-facto leadership position and millions of gold.
These beginning antics attracted another group of players, the Skullers. In the beginning, they weren't even a clan, just a couple of PKers that preyed on various players in the Wilderness. The story goes that two professional, decked to the teeth Pkers known as DarkkLord and Ihatedogs came blows multiple times in the wilderness. Each time they were close, but eventually one would overpower the other. This stalemate lasted for a few weeks, thousands of gold in gear replacement took place until they decided to team up to kill unsuspecting players together. Along the way, they found a couple others that were near their skill level and hunted in two-to-three player packs. But once they ran into the Borgia patrols, they found themselves a new target in the Wilderness. Unlike the random players they would normally prey on, these guys were consistent and always had decent PKing gear that made them stand out. Suddenly their interest grew as they found more and more Borgia. Taking them out wasn't the most difficult, as many didn't even utilize tick manipulation but their loot and ability to stand their ground kept the Skullers coming back for more.
For the first two weeks of these skirmishes, the Borgia were noticing their patrolling members were coming back more and more with lost gear. But at this time, the Borgia were so large that they spanned every world with a large population and even trickled their guards into smaller ones. The profits were up, the membership was becoming even more than just a ragtag group of merchants, they were becoming a crime family. They even had their own dedicated forum and website where they'd keep track of eachother. From here, we come to understand that their leadership had shifted from an ambigious autocracy to an established oligarchy. While most of the upper levels were not very notable, there were three at the top who showed up the most. XxHenryxX, still at the top, KingLeon who was one of the founding members known for being Henry's first close friend on Runescape, and a new face named Alexia18. Alexia was interesting as she was in a clan mostly full of men but she was raised up to a high standard due to her ability to keep the farmers in check. While Henry took care of the mercenary patrols, King Leon handled the Grand Exchanged, but Alexia kept a rotating schedule for the members of the Borgia. It was as if they had real jobs, working anywhere from 5-7 hour shifts but most, according to the forums, were happy due to the consistent pay and safe standards. Even though the Skullers cast some fear into the farmers.
